Edgewater Elementary School is a wonderful Title I school in the Jefferson Area that serves more than 400 students from preschool through sixth grade in Jefferson County. We are a diverse school community that is culturally responsive and embraces restorative practices. Approximately 50% of our students are English Language Learners, with most of them participating in our Dual Language program. We offer 1-to-1 iPads K-3rd, and Chromebooks 4th-6th. These devices provide opportunities for our students to create, problem-solve, collaborate, and communicate in all content areas.
Dual Language (DL) Program
We offer a 2-Way DL program in Kinder and a One-Way DL program 1st-6th grade. A One-Way serves families whose native or dominant language is Spanish only. A Two-Way program includes families who are native or dominant English speakers in addition to native Spanish speakers. As we face out our One-Way into a 2-Way, our goal is to have full implementation Preschool-6th grade by 2025.
Our Problem-Based Learning Journey
We will continue to learn about and implement Problem-Based Learning in all grade levels. Problem-Based Learning is a student centered approach in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving an open-ended problem. The PBL process does not focus on problem solving with a defined solution, but it allows for the development of other desirable skills and attributes. This includes content knowledge, enhanced group collaboration and communication. All grade levels will implement at least one PBL tied to Jeffco’s curriculum each semester.
